Theophilus London

Although he looks a lot like Spoek Mathambo from last post... he isn't.

But I'd take a hefty wager that you had already guessed that.

The debut LP from Theophilus London drops on July the 19th. And it's gonna be ill. Czech it out here.

Thus spoke Spoek

We have talked about Spoek Mathambo, the South African self-proclaimed genre starter and fashionista who double-fists his two electro heavyweight bands - Sweat.X and Playdoe.

Anything he touches is bound to be full of heavy baselines and battery tasting. Be careful.

Good video of Basement Jaxxs' "My Turn"

Oh my, I get it.

So, I finally came across the official video for Uffie's "Pop the Glock," which was released, like, a millenia ago. The song is still great. Except now in a really girly way.

Still great video though. And this song could be played anywhere.

Hyperactive

I was shocked to hear that one of my favorite electro artists of all time is just 19. Fellow Institubes (Surkin, Orgasmic, Curses!) and Parisian, Bobmo has created a really independent sound in his short walk on earth. Straight from his myspace:

"BOBMO is a young (17) producer hailing from the hyperactive city of Paris via the even more hyper city of Bordeaux. While in high school, with no musical training, he launched a short-lived rap career, making beats on his Playstation (no, really!), spitting awkward tales of murder and woe."

Sounds like a normal, goofy kid. But truly a men among electro boys, He travels Europe with the Ed Rec gang and fellow young Institubers, such as Surkin, touring the huge club scene there. You really must hear this. Incomparable.

Man, I want to produce on my Playstation..

Noise Porn

Malente has arguably the coolest website intro this guy has seen in awhile. This website lets you mix his songs together. Its pretty Sweet.

One Mane - Five Letters - PARTY

This is some seriously badddd bass. I have been sitting on this for a while, keeping these tasty bass treasures all to my self. The breakdowns are seriously sweaty and hardcore. Soo much fun in the club. I had the opportunity to drop these tracks a while back, and you cant help but bob your head... so... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!??!?!?

Friday

More to Come..

Sorry about the looong no post, but I have been very busy and for some reason the blog has taken the blunt end of my priority list.

That being said, I have TONS to tell you guy, so expect more later today as I work tirelessly on getting everything organized.

In the mean time, watch this video while I get the rest of my Malente post ready.

STORY!!!

So, at Lollapalooza two years ago, I had the opportunity to read about CSS in the official program on the hour long elevated rail ("L") ride from our hotel by the the airport to the site of Lolla, Grant Park in Chicago. IL. As it turns out, I had missed their performance at the festival already. But by chance, they were playing a DJ set at the Debonair Social Club later that night. Mind you, I didn't know exactly who CSS was at that moment, as this was a swell year before their scene-breaking iPod Commercial where they really made a name for themselves. But when I had read "five Brazilian art school girls", I was sold, immediately. I thought to myself, "I have to see this, at all costs."

So , to make a long story short, I go (by myself mind you - my friends went to see some jam band), only to find out they had missed their flight, and the festival all together. Not an entire loss, however, because Colt 45 was hosting the party and I proceeded to enjoy myseld on their tab. I met a photographer which whom I exchanged a great deal of pleasantries with, only to later find out it was the one-and-only ShadowScene.  Party photographer extraordinaire.

They did have a DJ however, were I was introduced to the hypnotizing sounds of Green Velvet for the first time.  A moment I will never forget.  On the way home I proceeded to get lost for seven hours in downtown Chicago, wandering the streets alone. Last time I go out alone in a strange city.  Lesson learned.

But, hey, ...five art school girls. FIVE!

Indeed, I really felt close to the ol' rompin' grounds of Chicago house music being in a pretentious indie bar in Wicker Park off the Damen stop of the "L". It was a religious experience of sorts for me. A definite must-stop next time you visit Chicago.

CSS - Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above (RAC Remix)
CSS - Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex (Kill The Noise Remix)
Green Velvet ft. Walter Phillips - Shake & Pop (Original Mix)

P.S. I can Tanqueray.

Mikix the Car

Trouble & Bass' (Drop The Lime, Curses!) Mikix The Cat is makin' the rounds.

So if you haven't heard, apparently there is an organization that goes around like the ACLU of music intellectual property rights and voids blogs of their musikz. Now I'm pretty liberal, or at the least a constitutionalists, but I have been notified that my Zombie Disco Squad Post was taken off due to copyright infringements, and the songs I posted you can find all over the internet, free of charge.

I think these are probably the only people who even know about my blog.

But hey, one more person. Eh?

Here's the skinny: They wont tell you which post (song) specifically infringed. Just to be sure, here are a few Zombie Disco Squad remixes for your ears, and barely legal, too.

My flavourite remixers out there right now, bottom line.

KillaQueens - "Bitches (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)"
Wiley - "Wearing My Rolex (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)"

We Play You Gay

If you know me at all then you probably know I like Danish lesbians as much as the next guy. But when it comes to Fagget Fairys I'm on a completely different level. Right on the cusp of the Copenhagen underground techno/electro, DJ Sensimilla & MC ENA perform anywhere from the Balkans, courtesy of label ArtRebels, to the heart of Brooklyn promoted by the super blog and newly formed record label Palms Out. This couple/Music-Duo is seriously making waves.

Long story short, MC Ena's vocal are crisp and convincing with all of the confidence you would expect from a Northern European lesbian.  I have no idea what the hell she's saying. But it sounds great.

Young Guns

"Harrison Schaaf is the commander of an army of exploding synthesizers, conquering the audience through a brilliantly executed sonic pincer movement, with landmine beats to the left and bayonet hooks to the right. All who find themselves within earshot of this production wizard must instantly bow down to the new Emperor of Electro."

Blowin' doors across the world, this young LA native has drawn attention his way with top 40 remixes that are as unique as they are strongly produced. You can tell he will be a force to contend with in the electro scene for years to come.

Bass All Up In Your Face

Wowee weewow! The ol' brain tells me its about time to drain. I have indeed been fermenting my brain juices to near copious levels and the results have been less than fantastic. I have a headache.

And since we all know the best cure for a headache is brain rattling low frequency club music, I feel the need to share with you my flavourite version of the cure-all cocktail we call electro.

Taking this one to the deep end (or the low end), I am stuck on these silly bass-lines. The ones that bounce back and forth so fast you cant tell if your speakers are busted or if you just heard the sound of your own heart exploding. You know, Kakow! I.m talking about Witty Boy. Not for the faint of heart.

A DJ/ Producer hailing from Leeds, UK, Witty Boy is no stranger to the remix scene. His remix of Craig David is making mad rounds on the blog-o-sphere right now, however the tracks he produces alone make me sick. Really. I need to throw up. Too.. Much.. Bass..

Tecktonik Tonic

Well there is that saying. If you're going to go, go hard. But that's also what she said.

So, I'll continue to blog like people are listening. I imagine I'd probably continue to blog at this rate only if I knew ten thousand or so people read my blog a day. Well maybe a hundred... thousand. because I post so often...

We'll compromise and keep going at this rate until we reach a nice and steady three posts a month or so.

I kid.

First, I feel the necessity to delve into my obsession with Tecktonik. Of course, as all Tecktonik lovers know, I found my way across the French version of Caucasian hip-hop pop and lock via the Yelle video, "A Cause Des Garcons" remixed by TEPR, which features the Tecktonik group that includes dancers Treaxy, Vavan, and Fredou. They're like, way French.  I had the pleasure of meeting the lead's (Treaxy's) cousin at University. He was a ballet transfer student and couldn't speak a lick of English. All we could say to each other was "Yelle" and "Tecktonik." And that was nice because besides that he seemed quite boring. Kidding Johan!

I became fascinated and eventually went on a soul searching mission for all the crazed white-people dancing I could find, since it went along with my music. Months later, I discovered that the womenz actually partook in this dance. Hot womenz.

Needless to say, I was in love. I found Tecktonik dancer Lecktra.

If you haven't seen the TEPR video I'm talking about, I think it has about 30 Million plays, so czech it out if you haven't. It would be hard to miss. I'm not even linking it.  It's that popular.  TEPR.  You know this.

But in the meantime, here are three short videos to rocket feul your brain into electro submission.

Shake it!

8-bit Harmonies With A Twist Of Dub-Step

Stereoheroes is another French Production Duo, reminiscent of Sharkslayer and other bands incorporating the heart of 8-Bit chip tunes, with the up-beat tempo and format of the more popular Dub-Step. Similar to the baile-funk inspired enthusiasts of Brasilian Disco music, Stereoheroes uses a permeating accordian-like lead that eerily reminds me of Northern European producers and DJ's Zombie Disco Squad and others (Read: Oh Snap!!). Self proclaimed Ghettotech, this music really lives up to its name. Chopped, rap-inspired lyrics on 8-Bit electro harmonies with bangin' guitar breaks.. True heroes of my stereo..

Stereoheroes - Washout (Mustard Pimp Remix)

Stereoheroes - Washout (Mikix The Cat Remix)

Bonus: This track goes too well together with the others to not be mentioned here.

Mr. Oizo - Postif

The repeating sample is eerily amazing.

Star Rave

This music is Star Wars meets Disco/ French Nu-Rave during a game of cosmic bowling.

Laidback Luke is laidback about everything but music. Luke has seen some power remixes and press in the past year and especially since banding with famed label Swedish House Mafia in 2006. This DJ's high pitched scrapped and revived seirens will haunt your dreams. and your memories. and your family. and your family's memories. So go forth and Star Rave. Or rave-bowl. Whatever you fancy.

Just be real careful raveing with light sabers. Theres a lawsuit right there in a club. At least your not shooting yourself in the leg though.

Surkin - White Knight Two (Laidback Luke Remix)

Steve Angello - Gypsy (Laidback Luke Gypsy Woman Remix)

Treasure Fingers - Cross the Dancefloor (Laidback Luke Remix)
